Employees of 108 service issue warning in Goa

PANAJI: Employees of Goa's emergency services 108 have issued a notice to strike work from January 7, 2014.

The 108 service employees' union under Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), alleged at a press conference in Panaji on Tuesday that the management of emergency management research institute (EMRI) have been treating them badly, and they have been under paid.

Anand Gawde, president of the union, claimed that while they have been made to work for twelve hours, they are paid for only eight hours.

He also said that they are under staffed, and as a result they have to sometimes work without weekly offs.

Gawde also demanded that they should be paid on par with government employees.

The union has handed over a memorandum to chief minister Manohar Parrikar. If our demands are not met, we will stop working; and the government will be responsible for whatever happens, Gawde said. tnn
