‘108' contract employees take to the streets

The employees of the ‘108' emergency services staged a novel demonstration here on Thursday as part of their ongoing strike to press for their nine-point charter of demands including payment of regular wages in compliance with GO 3.
The protesters arrived at the Collectorate in a rally and staged a demonstration in front of the district administration office highlighting their plight.
Later, addressing the agitating employees at a relay hunger strike camp, representatives of the ‘108' Emergency Services Contract Employees' Association alleged that the government deprived them of regular wages despite their valuable emergency health care services. They deplored that they were rendering emergency services under unfavourable work conditions.
The leaders demanded that the government should immediately intervene and concede their legitimate demands such as implementation of eight-hour work rule and social security measures.

Salary dues
Members of the CITU-led 108 Emergency Service Contract Employees' Union struck work and staged a demonstration in front of the Prakasam Bhavan here on Thursday to press for their nine-point charter of demands.
The contract employees, who struck work bringing to halt the much-in-demand emergency ambulance service, urged the State government to run on its own the all-important health service.
The emergency ambulance service was hit in Prakasam district following their protest.
The agitators, led by its district president Sk. Mastan and secretary T. Satish pressed for payment of salaries kept pending for two months by the GVK-EMRI management.
Their other demands included social security benefits, accident insurance cover, and release of funds for maintenance of 108 Ambulance service vans.

  2. Dear Anonymous Friend
We are also happy to hear the news from you that Government of Andhra Pradesh has entered into a MoU with GVK EMRI, extending the 108 Emergency Medical Services to the people of AP.

For your information, unlike other managerial staffs who are receiving monthly salary of Rs.50, 000 and above we are truly dedicated for people in this noble service with meager salary of Rs. 6000 to 7000 per month.

Whether the GVK EMRI really dedicated in this noble service for without any Profit Motive as they claim?
People may believe this.....if GVK EMRI implements 8 hour duty with Overtime wages and pay the workers with high wages so as to bridge the unjustifiable gap between the salary of managerial staffs and the salary of Pilots, EMTs and Call Center Workers. As the 95% of the operational cost including salary is paid by the State Govt. not by GVK EMRI, they will not going to suffer any loss by giving reasonable salary to the workers. Then why GVK EMRI paid low wages to the workers even after getting the same from State Govt. ...there lies their Profit....there lies their real "noble service".

Until these clouds are cleared GVK EMRI cannot claim that they are in Noble Service without Profit Motive. On the other hand we the Pilots, EMTs and Call Center workers without whom this great 108 Ambulance Service cannot be exist even for a single day by the mere presence of Fleets, OEs, DMs, RMs and HRs can proudly claim that we dedicated ourselves in this selfless service for the needy people. Please think it over.

  3. Dear Mr.COMRADE,

i appreciate that you replied without hiding/deleting the content.

if you are really concerned to see these EMT/Pilots to earn a whopping amopunt as you highlight, let them become DM/OE likewise; you motivate them to become so. ask them to work hard to climb up the career ladder. don't spoil them this way. every indian has the right to get any information thru RTI. why cant you get it clarified from GVK EMRI about their accounts;rather avoid misguiding young guys

  4. Dear Friend
It is happy to see that an Anonymous becomes a Nanban. welcome ..welcome...let us discuss..
Dear Friend, it is unfortunate that you are deliberately missing our point and angle. We are not having any jealous about the salary of the OE,DM, etc., we are talking about the unjustifiable gap between the salary of workers who really run the Ambulance and Managerial Staffs who only supervising the service. We are not claiming equal salary with OE,DM, etc.,

Then what is your answer for this point //As the 95% of the operational cost including salary is paid by the State Govt. not by GVK EMRI, they will not going to suffer any loss by giving reasonable salary to the workers. Then why GVK EMRI paid low wages to the workers even after getting the same from State Govt. ...there lies their Profit....//

Then what about 8 hours duty with Overtime wages and Compensatory holiday or double wages which are guaranteed by Labour Laws of our country. Why your GVK not obey the Laws of our country.

And thanks for your reference to Rti Act. But we have already collected all these information thro Rti. After analyzing those information only we came to this conclusion. If you are misguided by GVK with false figures please get information thro Rti from TN State Govt.

  5. Dear Friend
You said //avoid misguiding young guys//
Are you think that guiding the workers to know their rights and awakening them from their slumber means "misguiding" them.

Then can you say that all paid professionals like Auditors, Lawyers, MBA Graduates and HRs who are guiding Corporate Companies day and night to evade tax and to circumvent labour laws against the welfare of People and Workers are really misguiding the Corporate Companies.

If you accept that they are misguiding Corporate Companies, we accept that you have privilege to describe us as we are misguiding workers.

If you believe that they are advising to protect and promote the welfare of Corporate Companies, then you should honestly accept that we the Trade Unionists also advising to protect and promote the welfare of the Workers. Only deference is they are doing this for payment, we are doing this for conviction. Try to think Straight.

  6. YES, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE THAT THEY ALSO HAVE BODY PART LIKE STOMOUCH AND THEY ALSO HAVE FAMILY TO FEED. CHECK THE LEAVING RATIO AND YOU WILL KNOW WHY PEOPLE ARE LEAVING EVEN AFTER RENDERING THREE YEARS SERVICE? NO GUARANTEE, NO RETURNS, NO FUTURE AND NO RESPECT FROM THE EMPLOYER TOO? ARE THEY NOT PART OF OUR OWN STATE? ARE THEY ALIEN, HAVE THEY COMMITTED SIN TO HAVE JOINED 108? PLEASE DONT LET THEIR ENTHUSIASM DAMPEN DUE TO CALLOUS APPROACH OF KICK BACKERS, SITTING IN AC AND COLLECTING ALL THE LAURELS FOR GOOD DEEDS OF UNSUNG FOOT SOLDIERS.
